Mayor's Welcome Message

Grayson-aerial-img-09.jpgGrayson Kentucky was classified as a Home Rule city in 2014, a change by statute from its previous 4th class status. Under previous statutes, Kentucky cities were classified by population on a scale of 1-6, with 1 being the largest. Under current statute, cities are all classified as Home Rule, with the exception of Louisville, being classified as 1st Class. Grayson's most recent census population was 4,217 in 2010, an 8.8% increase from 2000.

Grayson, the county seat of Carter County, is located in the northeastern part of the state on Interstate 64 about 25 miles south and west of the Ohio and West Virginia borders. 5 major highways converge at Grayson, including I-64, US 60 and the John Y Brown, Jr "AA" Hwy connecting Grayson to Cincinnati, giving us transportation access that benefits both commerce and tourism. The city limits of Grayson contains approximately 2.5 square miles of area that is rural to suburban in nature.

Dubbed the "The Heart of the Parks", Grayson is geographically located near the center of a quadrangle formed by four of the Commonwealth's most beautiful state parks, and more opportunities are available at Cave Run Lake, a mere 45 miles to our west.
